SUMMARY:Urban Bush Women Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:The CSU Dance Program will host a masterclass taught by Urban B
ush Women on Monday\, April 8th\, from 11 to 12:40 p.m.\, at Dance Theatre
  107. This masterclass is open to all dance majors.\n\nUrban Bush Women (U
BW) burst onto the dance scene in 1984 with bold\, demanding\, and excitin
g works that brought under-told stories to life under the artistic directi
on of Chanon Judson and Mame Diarra Speis. Founded by choreographer Jawole
Willa Jo Zollar\, the Company weaves contemporary dance\, music\, and tex
t with the history\, culture\, and spiritual traditions of the African Dia
spora.\n\nOff the concert stage\, UBW has developed an extensive community
engagement program\, BOLD (Builders\, Organizers\, and Leaders through Da
nce). UBW’s largest community engagement project is its Summer Leadershi
p Institute (SLI). This 10-day intensive training program connects dance p
rofessionals with community-based artists/activists in a learning experien
ce to leverage the arts as a vehicle for civic engagement. UBW launched th
e Urban Bush Women Choreographic Center Initiative Producing Program (CCI
2.0) in March 2022. The CCI 2.0 fellowships support the development of wom
en choreographers\, producers of color\, and other underheard voices.\n\nU
BW TECHNIQUE &amp\; REPERTORY WORKSHOP\nParticipants will explore UBW work
s and engage in a pre-professional movement study rooted in the “Liberat
ed Pelvis\,” a movement methodology created by Co-Artistic Director Mame
Diarra Speis. Within this process\, students will be asked to interrogate
their discoveries and knowings through an improvisational framework of du
 ration\, permission\, play\, transparency\, and organized movement. If par
ticipants have no technical dance experience\, Dance For Every Body is the
best option.\nATTEND THE WORKSHOP\nForms required. Please bring a complet
ed Photography Consent Form and Liability Release Form with you to the cla
ss. Minors must also bring a Consent/Emergency Form.\n\nThe class is free\
, but registration is required. Please complete the form below and follow
the instructions about the required photo and liability waiver forms.\n\nP
lease complete the following form to register for the class:\n\n[gravityfo

ly supports this master class. The Urban Bush Women performance is on Tues
