Movement Through Parenthood is an interdisciplinary research program exploring the impact of dance interventions on prenatal emotional attachment and well-being during pregnancy. Although based in Colorado, this entirely virtual intervention program reaches prenatal clinics, birthing centers, doulas, and birthing persons across the globe. Creative research accompanies this study as part of the dissemination approach which engages the general public through concerts, events, and film. Student research assistants complete CITI training and certification for human research. They lead interventions, discussions, conference presentations, and literature reviews in collaboration with faculty from CSU Dance, CSU’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies and community partners: Full Expression and Peaceful Birth Company.

CSU Associate Professor of Dance Madeline Harvey has received an Engagement Scholarship Consortium grant for her Movement Through Parenthood study. According to the ESC website, "The Engagement Scholarship Consortium’s Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grants Program for Faculty competitively awards a limited number of grants of up to $5,000 that are intended to fund one-year projects, and collaborative projects among faculty from more than one discipline and/or more than one university. Study Participants Needed

The Movement Through Parenthood study is currently recruiting pregnant persons in their second trimester (13 to 26 weeks). The research study is examining the effects of dance on emotional availability and well-being during pregnancy. Contact Madeline Harvey at Madeline.Harvey@colostate.edu for more information.
