Moving Through Parkinson’s program featured on “living healthy longer” podcast

Parkinson's Movement GroupCSU Dance Instructor Lisa Morgan recently appeared on the Living Healthy Longer podcast, produced by the Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging.

According to the site, the podcast description, living healthy longer covers the latest in the biological, cognitive, psychological, social, and behavioral aspects of getting older—from research happening at Colorado State University to interventions and community programs supporting our ever-growing, aging population to news headlines that challenge what we thought we knew about aging.

Host Hannah Halisker explores Lisa Morgan’s Moving Through Parkinson’s program for people with Parkinson’s disease. The two discuss how dance can bring people together and how it feels physically and emotionally to connect with others through the art of dance. Lisa shared some cognitive benefits of movement through dance and provided resources on finding a dance class in Fort Collins.

During the conversation, Ms. Morgan also explained how her volunteer work with CSU Music Therapy led to a partnership between the programs.

“And so we started a dance program…I wasn’t able to work with music therapists right away, but we have now found ways to collaborate, and it’s really powerful. So not only am I bringing in music to my classes, but also the music therapy program now brings movement into their coursework even more as well.”
